Strange, but when I connected my external hard drive (Toshiba) to my Lenovo PC USB port on right side, it first only worked erratically (stop and go). But now it completely stopped functioning. After searching Internet, I found a post here that explained the problem and presented a solution. In short, it claimed attaching the external drive on the same side of the PC, i.e., to a second USB where first one contained the wireless mouse USB device, the mouse would not function. The solution was to move to other side. The post went on discussing USB2 vs Usb3, etc.
I resolved the issue by switching the external drive USB connection indeed on the other side, but selected the USB-C port where I had an adapter (USB 3.0) to connect to that physical port to allow connection to my external drive (I didn't try the actual physical USB on the left side). Anyway, it works perfectly now.
