1005. Fidelity Good Faith Violations

Have you received a Good Faith Violation letter in your Account Records? I did, but I was never notified any other way, like email! Now, how many people god to Account Records daily? Weekly? Monthly? At all! I stumbled on these while trying to confirm something else.

Now the letter itself is VERY misleading AND does NOT identify the violation so you can avoid another in the future. If you didn't already know, you are allowed no more than 3 violations of this type in a 365 day period, after which your trading will be suspended. Nice! Especially when you aren't notified! Now, I discovered that my violations were all because I did both a sale of an option (Opened a covered call position) in my retirement account and later that day bought it back (Closed the position). That is a no-no and you wouldn't be able to find it given the text in the letter which has to do with selling a security after it was bought earlier. To make it simple, the violation is because you did a DAY TRADE, i.e., you bought-sold a security or sold-bought an options against the same security on the same day! Why didn't they just tell you that? Didn't know that if you accidently submitted an order against an one of your other accounts instead of the one you desired and then quickly closed it to clean up your mistake that you committed day trading and get a red card. Ha. So, watch out and NEVER do a day trade.

What disturbed me was that the letter is dated the day after the transactions that caused the problem and it doesn't tell you which transactions. Very poor letter. Very poor notification (or none). Be careful.

1004. DishNetwork Hopper 3 Google Assist not working

Here's another Hopper 3 problem. If you are using remote and have muted sound, Goggle assist will not be able to display results of voice request. Hopper 3 WILL understand the verbal request and display that on the screen, but will NOT respond with the answer. FIX? Unmute and everything works. Cold reboot does NOT fix the problem.

1005. Replace Dell 1440 Keyboard.

I finally got tired of the "z" not working every time on my old Dell 1440 and my wife who uses it had problems on other keys. I removed all key tops and cleaned thoroughly, but the results did not resolve anything. After 10 years of pounding on it, guess this could be expected some day. It just wore out!

I searched for the part on the Internet and came across Amazon of course, but is was $73 one place and $43 another. The overall search found many hits. One cheap version around $9 with free hipping was of interest, but I was already burnt on another product coming from China which took over a month to get here -- 2 weeks after Amazon already returned my money because it did not get here even 1.5 weeks after expected, and that on top of the estimated twenty some days. This keyboard had an estimate of 3+ weeks!

No dice. I opted for a $18 one from a company (CDSMICRO) in Pittsburgh, PA which got here in 3-4 days. Only thing wrong was that package was crimped slightly and keyboard NOT packed properly also received damage due to bending. Fortunately I could bend it back in shape. I did this after the wife tested it and noticed that the space key did not work consistently. Anyway, my repair fixed it.

This post is to pass along the video that tells you how to remove the keyboard, part number C279N on the Dell 1440 Model PP42L. This is all you need to ensure proper disassembly. Assembly is just the reverse. All EASY! Check it out here . Hope this helps.
